DURATION 2 hours
LOCATION See Below

Grand Finale
Begins at Center Church on-the-Green and United Church on the Green, between Elm and Chapel

The dance is moving around you. You’re moving around the dance. Join the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange and hundreds of citizen-dancers for the Festival’s grand finale, the final act of “613 Radical Acts of Prayer”.  Beginning at 7pm, Center Church on-the-Green and United Church on the Green give venerable context to a series of theatrical offerings. Then join the parade– rollerskates alongside bamboo prayer flags– to the Lower Green.  There, dances, blessings and social actions culminate in the Dance Exchange-led community performance, conceived specifically for the New Haven Green; all are welcome to participate.

Check the Residency Page frequently for updates and additional confirmed performance times, dates and locations or call (203) 498-1212.

Finding Space Sacred: 5 Twilights Plus
What makes a space sacred? How does conscious action by moving bodies change the way we think about a church, bus stop, a fountain or a baseball field? From June 19 – 27, daily dances at sacred spaces will be performed by Liz Lerman Dance Exchange members and local participants, animated by musical accompaniment from local musicians.  These brief dances (approx. 15-30 minutes) will be choreographed by local choreographers in collaboration with the Dance Exchange.

Thank you to all local dancers, choreographers and musicians who are participating in this ongoing project! Visit www.artidea.org for a full list of participants.

Liz Lerman Dance Exchange Dance Master Class
DanceSpace (70 Audubon Street, Lower Level)
As the Dance Exchange explores borders and boundaries on the New Haven Green, we'll examine our own in this master class taught by Matt Mahaney and Sarah Levitt. Through becoming more aware of the space that our body inhabits, we can find the edges of our structure, and then find ways to move beyond those edges, freeing our body to move fully and efficiently through space. By experimenting with Dance Exchange tools and exploring choreographic structures we'll expand our range of movement possibilities, and push ourselves to trust and challenge our creative choices. Please come dressed for a dance class and ready to move.

Friday, June 20, 12:30 pm
City Hall Parent/Child Duet
New Haven City Hall, 165 Church Street
One dance, three sites: How does the location of a movement change its meaning? The parent/child duet will be performed three times during the Festival in different contexts.  All dances will include local participants, including parents and children of all ages.  In this first performance the setting will be New Haven’s City Hall where the meaning might encompass public policy, the politics of parenting, or citizenship at any age.

How can I take part in any of the dances? I am a member of Congregation Mishkan Israel. I have a daughter who MIGHT be interested in the Duo (she lives out of town.) I am a dancer and a strong supporter of the spiritual aspect of the festival. I have been away and did not know about the chance to take part in preparation of dances. May I still take part in the formation of dances to be performed?
    Eagerly,

There is a problem with your site’s main calendar: it is missing the “Finding Sacred Space: 5 Twilights Plus” events.

    For example, have a look:
    http://www.artidea.org/calendar.php?date=2008-06-22
The 7.15pm event at the Women’s Table is missing.

Please add these into the main calendar. Thank you!

The grand finale extravaganza blew me away. Will there be any video clips of the event published? What an amazing amalgam of historical research, narrative-making, community-making, movement and prayer. A true blessing on New Haven.
