The city is experiencing an imaginative revitalization sustained by the energy of forward-looking citizens and students, businesses and world-class institutions such as Yale University. Power shoppers and bargain hunters delight in the eclectic crafts and antiques shops, contemporary art galleries, music, clothing and wine retailers of our rejuvenated downtown business district.
The downtown is a landmark of American city planning, nine park-like squares surrounding a 16-acre commons known as "The Green" where the Festival's Main Stage is located. The city has buildings by Eero Saarinen, Philip Johnson, Marcel Breuer, Louis Kahn and architecturally distinct neighborhoods acknowledged "walk-able museums". The renowned Peabody Museum of Natural History is here and no less than three legendary theaters: The Shubert (where every Broadway show once had its preview), Long Wharf and Yale Rep.
There's plenty to eat too: New Haven's neighborhoods harbor an abundance of delectable, and definitely inexpensive, ethnic cuisines. Some say New Haven is the Birthplace of the Hamburger and Pizza and she is the undisputed home of the Lollipop, the Erector Set, the nation's first public telephone and tree planting program as well as a full-size replica of the liberated slave ship Amistad.
What better environment for a festival of arts and ideas? We are proud to call New Haven home and lucky to have this resurgent city as partner and muse. Please visit the excellent website,
