Come and join us for a conversation with the artists behind "Strange Light," JLS Gangwisch and Kit Hung. They will take us through the creative journey of Strange Light, starting from the initial research stage, which involved interviews and the exploration of archival photos to the assistance of AI. They will also delve into the incorporation of Al in the creative process and discuss the project's shooting and workflow. This includes their experimentation with an aesthetic approach towards volumetric data and 3D scanned objects.

WORKSHOP: We all hear stories, but what does Story do? How does Story affect the Teller? How does Story affect the Listener? How can Story affect Society at large? In this workshop participants will consider why we tell stories and how stories affect us as both Teller and Listener. Be the story Folktale, Fable, Legend, Scary or Personal, something happens when Story is shared.

The renowned ensemble of Bill Lowe’s Signifyin’ Natives reassembles in New Haven to celebrate the release of their first cd recording, “SWEET CANE, Suites and Other Pedagogical Prompts,” including Lowe’s adaptation of Jean Toomer’s Harlem Renaissance masterpiece, CANE, first published in 1923. 45-minute Lecture Demonstration followed by an hour Concert

Hands-on class teaching the process of making one shaken drink and one stirred drink at Sherkaan. Participants will have all the supplies available to practice these techniques and make 2 of their own cocktails to sip on. Additionally there will be bites served in between making drinks.

There will be a 4 day film screening of the Ten Years, a series which started in Hong Kong and extended to Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand. The series invites directors and viewers to envision and reimagine the future of their own environments. Attendees will participate in a talkback with Yale-China Artist Fellow Kit Hung immediately following the screening. The Ten Years screenings at the Festival are sponsored by the Council on East Asian Studies at Yale and the Council on Southeast Asian Studies at Yale.

It’s a storytelling mash-up featuring all styles of great stories told through all flavors of engaging formats — from spoken word and folktelling to personal narrative and rap. Inspired by the burlesque acting of silent films, this silent, bold, brutal and bloody performance takes us on a wordless journey through the ruthless pursuit of power with humour and melodramatic gestures.
