Executive Director

The Executive Director will provide imaginative leadership toward the development and realization of the Festival’s world-class artistic and intellectual programs. They will passionately articulate an organizational vision that weaves positive values of cultural diversity into the fabric of the Festival, where artistic inclusion and audience access are paramount. Interacting with a wide variety of constituencies, the Executive Director will engage those in the national and international arts and humanities sectors; community members in business, government, and local neighborhoods; regional tourism and economic planners; major arts organizations; donors; board, staff, and volunteers; the media; and multicultural and multigenerational audiences, among others.

ARTIST SERVICES

Artist Services Coordinator

Number Required: 3-4

Start Date: Various – as early as mid-May

End Date: July 1

Schedule: Full-time

Description:  Artist Services Coordinators are the principle liaison between artists and the Festival.  ASCs are each assigned several companies and will fulfill artist needs as well as communicate/coordinate artist needs with appropriate Festival departments including Production, Public Relations, Audience Services, and Hospitality.

Requirements:  Theatrical Company Management or related experience required.  Must have calm and efficient problem solving and multi-tasking abilities as well as excellent organizational and communication skills.  ASCs must be “people-persons”, able to effectively communicate not only with artists from all over the world, but also with technicians and managers.

Hospitality Manager

Number Required: 1

Schedule: Part-time until June, then Full-time

Description:  The Hospitality Manager plans and implements all meal and food service needs for the artists and staff at the Festival.  The job involves working with community partners to negotiate food donations and discounts, and fulfilling artist rider needs.

The Hospitality Manager will manage a team of 2 – 3 assistants and/or interns, and will coordinate with Development, and Production as needs and opportunities overlap.

Requirements:  The Hospitality Manager is a hybrid job.  In the planning phase, the Hospitality Manager will need to be extremely organized and detail oriented to understand and organize the hospitality needs of the Festival.  There is also a significant Development aspect of the job in coordinating as much donated food and flowers as possible.  Later, the Hospitality Manager must be willing and able to roll up his/her sleeves and get venues set up and ready to go one minute, and pass champagne for an opening night toast the next.  The Hospitality Manager should be competent with MS Office and should be able to life 25 pounds and spend a good deal of time on his/her feet.

Hospitality Assistants

Description:  Hospitality Assistants are responsible for the organization, delivery, set-up and strike of artist green room food, beverages, and other hospitality items.  Hospitality Assistants also set up and strike post-show receptions, and act as hosts throughout these events.

Requirements:  Must be organized and have the ability to safely lift 25 lbs.  Able to set-up/strike food quickly, cleanly, efficiently, and unobtrusively; and have a flair with flowers, food, and fun.   Food service experience preferred.

Artist Drivers

Description:  Artist Drivers meet the transportation needs of artists (and artist’s gear), members of Festival staff, and VIPs, using Festival-rented vehicles.  Transportation needs range from NYC airport pick up and drop-offs to local transportation between hotels and venues. 

Requirements: Drivers must be at least 25 years of age and have a clean driving record.  Drivers must be able to drive a 15 passenger van and have a general knowledge of the Greater New Haven area.  Drivers are expected to assist with the loading and unloading of materials, luggage, and equipment.  A friendly demeanor and an easy-going personality are big plusses!

AUDIENCE SERVICES

Theatrical House Managers

Description:  House Managers are responsible for the safety and comfort of patrons at all Festival events (free, ticketed, indoor, and outdoor), and for the seamless communication between the front-of-house, artists, stage managers, and box office.  House Managers will work with, engage, train, and supervise a corps of volunteer ushers.

Requirements:  Experience in theatrical house management is required. Must have excellent customer service skills, and be comfortable managing crowds.  Must have the ability to manage teams of volunteer ushers.

Box Office/Ticket Sellers

Requirements:  Box Office experience preferred.  Must be calm and pleasant under pressure; genuinely welcoming, and have excellent customer service skills.  Must be willing and able to learn to use Spektrix ticketing software, and be able to quickly and accurately calculate, complete, and record ticket sales.

Audience and Business Development Associate

Description:  The Audience and Business Development Associate will manage the implementation of an audience and business development plan; with a particular focus on increasing individual and group ticket sales, enhanced communications with local businesses and partners, and audience development.

Requirements:  Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.  Must enjoy and be comfortable talking with people from all walks of life.  Must be proficient with Google Apps. Must have strong organizational and collaborative skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities efficiently. Interest and experience in the performing arts preferred. Knowledge of New Haven communities is a plus.

House Management Captain

Receptionist/Administrative Assistant

Description:  The Administrative Assistant will provide excellent front-line customer service to both callers and visitors, answering routine inquiries, and referring others to the appropriate staff member.  The Administrative Assistant will provide general administrative support to Festival staff, and assist in the orientation of incoming staff and crew.

Requirements:  Must have excellent customer service, administrative, and organizational skills; ability to calmly manage multiple phone lines and simultaneous requests.  Good computer skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook required.  Access database ability preferred.

Audio Crew

Lighting Supervisor

Description:  The Festival Lighting Supervisor is responsible for the design, installation and operation of all Festival lighting and temporary electrical systems, and the supervision of all lighting crew.  The Festival Lighting Supervisor will liaise with artists and vendors to ensure the appropriate lighting support for all Festival events.

Requirements: Must have extensive knowledge of current lighting equipment, electrical codes, excellent people skills; and experience at a supervisory level.

Operations Manager

Description:  The Operations Manager is responsible for managing the master schedule of all non-technical needs of the Festival as a whole, and for the implementation thereof, including the safe and timely installation, strike, and storage of a broad array of infrastructure elements, equipment, and signage; and the distribution and retrieval of materials, collateral, and supplies.  The Operations Manager will work with and supervise a crew of 5-6 people.

Requirements:  Excellent organizational and scheduling abilities.  Good communication and people-skills.  Strong, mechanically inclined, able to safely lift 50 pounds.  Must be over 25 with a clean driver’s license and be comfortable driving a cargo van and mid-sized box truck.  Calm and efficient problem solving and multi-tasking abilities and a willingness to jump in, get dirty, and laugh about it later.

Festival Videographer

Description:  The Festival Videographer is responsible for recording and editing video content of events occurring prior to and during the Festival.  The Videographer will prepare content for broadcast through multiple media outlets, including uploading material to the Festival’s website and other commercial websites or media partners.

The Festival videographer will assist in the supervision of 3-4 Video Interns and help oversee their scheduling and job performance.

Requirements:  Professional experience creating original video content for broadcast required.  Must have expertise in the operation of video camera equipment including DSLR Cameras and Lenses, and be knowledgeable about lighting and audio for film.  Proficiency with Mac audio/video editing systems (including FCPX and Adobe Premiere), and most commonly used video uploading protocols.  Work samples required upon request.
