Personal Essay – Sharon Dickey

When I think of the word personal, the definition that comes to mind is the private side of a person’s life. Basically, things people don’t and can’t see judging by a person’s outward appearance. It seems like it’s easier for people to talk about others, good or bad, but when you ask people to write about themselves, it’s one of the hardest things to do. This is everything I’m thinking about as I type this essay. That’s one thing I can say about myself, I’m a thinker. It doesn’t matter what, I just think about everything and sometimes I ask myself, “Is that a good thing? Isn’t that what all girls my age do after all? I mean, I’m a 16-year old female, that has to be the explanation, right?” Probably not, but hey, who really knows.

Another word that can describe me is motivated. I can say that about myself because once I get it in my head that I want to get something done, I won’t stop until it’s done. My main goal is to be successful; and, at the same time, help whoever I can to succeed, too. I’d be able to that by furthering my education at college; I want to major in business, and minor in voice. It’s important to me because for one I’d be making myself proud as well as the people around me; and, in the long run, I can look back and say, “Wow, I’m glad I went to college, it changed my life.” I already sing and I’m taking business classes in high school. I’m diligent, but I also like to have fun, and I would love to make meaningful memories at college.
