Peek into the world of Shakespeare’s play, The Merchant of Venice. Bring the whole family to this performance by Elm Shakespeare Company’s Teen Troupe, made up of talented teens from all over the New Haven area. The actors will perform scenes from their spring production of the play, followed by a community discussion on inclusion, anti-Semitism, racism, and white supremacy. How can we work towards peacefully living and thriving together in a diverse city? What could some of the characters have done differently in each of the scenes to stand up to oppression? Elm Shakespeare Company Education Program Manager Sarah Bowles will facilitate the event. Audience members of all ages will get the chance to step into the action and try out some new scenarios. We think even Shakespeare himself would approve. After all, who cares who would be spinning in their grave? Art was not meant to sit still and behave!
