Even with the challenges of the pandemic, music and creativity always find a way survive and even thrive. The music of Bassology embraces that idea: our jazz performances are filled with interpretations of romantic melodies that celebrate life, build community and kindle, or rekindle the romantic essence of love.

BASSOLOGY is a swinging jazz band organized and directed by the Bassologist, Dr. David Chevan. It's a group of players united by a love of exploring and interpreting the music of the era of the Great American Songbook. The group plays a wide range of swinging music and they are especially adept at their interpretations of the works of the great songwriters including George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Richard Rodgers, and Cole Porter. For this year’s Arts on Call the group plans to highlight songs of romance, love, and the promise of renewal.

BASSOLOGY made its first appearance in the New Haven jazz scene in 1996. Back then they had a regular Friday night gig at the old Charlie B's in New Haven. When Charlie B's closed, they began playing every Saturday night at the Avon Old Farms Inn in Avon. The group continues to share their special brand of jazz playing in the New Haven area at the Elm City Market, Solun Tapas, and Mickey's. In Hartford the group has been heard at Black Eyed Sally's and The Press. Always swinging, Bassology exemplifies the elements that make jazz such an important artform.
