FREE. Climb to the top of the tower on East Rock! Learn the story behind the war memorial at the top of East Rock, climb the monument, and use provided binoculars to see the Elm City unfold below. Be prepared to climb lots of steps! This monument was dedicated in 1887 to a crowd of over 175,000, with Civil War general William Tecumseh Sherman in attendence as well.
Participants must be able to climb a narrow spiral staircase up the 112ft tower. Binoculars will be provided. Sturdy shoes are a must since the stairs are grated steel that will destroy flip flops, sandals, or heels. If small spaces make you uncomfortable, consider skipping this tour. Designed for ages 12 and up.
