Let's Get it Right New Haven

Workshop

Join us this summer for an innovative community dialogue on New Haven's environmental future! Local environmental organizations and self-nominated groups of concerned residents are invited to participate in a collaborative reading and action planning process.

STEP 1: Each group will agree to read What If We Get It Right? by Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson, the whole book or a featured section, as their foundation for discussion. Free copies of the book will be distributed to participating groups starting Earth Day, April 22, 2025.

STEP 2: Groups will read on their own and meet at least once internally to:

  • Discuss the shared reading
  • Identify environmental issues most relevant to the group
  • Envision positive, achievable outcomes for our city
  • Map potential obstacles and develop practical solutions
  • Create actionable strategies for ecological improvements

STEP 3: Group members will attend the Ideas Climate Summit on Saturday, June 21st, where we'll gather representatives from across environmental organizations with community members for an interactive session to shape New Haven's sustainable future.

  • Opening session in the auditorium for orientation
  • Break into mixed discussion groups at tables throughout the lobby, where environmental group members and community participants will collaborate to explore concerns, possibilities, and solutions
  • Reconvene in the auditorium to share insights and action plans developed during table discussions

Objective: The hands-on summit will transform individual group insights and concerns into collective action for positive environmental change in our city.
Group members can pick up free copies of the book at Possible Futures (318 Edgewood Ave. New Haven)
