Jacques Pépin
Jacques Pépin is a legendary French chef, author, educator, television personality, and artist. Born in 1935 in France, he began his culinary journey in his parents' restaurant and later became personal chef to French heads of state, including Charles de Gaulle. After moving to the U.S. in 1959, he worked at Le Pavillon and became a beloved culinary icon. Over his illustrious career, Pépin has authored over 30 books, including the classic La Technique, and earned 16 James Beard Foundation Awards. He’s been awarded France's highest honors, including La Légion d'Honneur, and the prestigious Julia Child Award. A longtime friend of Julia Child, they starred in the Emmy-winning Julia and Jacques Cooking at Home. In 2016, Pépin founded the Jacques Pépin Foundation, continuing his legacy of culinary education. He has inspired generations, both in the kitchen and through his artwork, and still calls Connecticut home.

Since launching in April 2017, Sanctuary Kitchen has grown tremendously. Our work includes: a Culinary Training Program that supports professional culinary development for aspiring chefs; a nationally recognized social enterprise food business that offers a diverse array of global cuisines available for purchase in a variety of places; and community-based culinary programming.
Our programming supports new residents of all backgrounds—from stay-at-home mothers who are talented home cooks, to former restaurant owners—Sanctuary Kitchen offers flexible schedules, childcare stipends, support with transportation, interpretation, and space for religious practice.
Sanctuary Kitchen seeks to address the most pressing issues often facing families in this country: social isolation, financial instability, unemployment, and discrimination.

Khalilah L. Brown-Dean
Dr. Khalilah (Ka-Lie-La) L. Brown-Dean is an award-winning scholar, visionary community leader, and the author of Identity Politics in the United States. She is University Professor and Executive Director of the Allbritton Center for the Study of Public Life at Wesleyan University.
A preeminent expert on voting rights, mass incarceration, and elections, she co-authored the report "50 Years of the Voting Rights Act" for the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies. Brown-Dean is the host of the popular Connecticut Public Radio program and podcast, DISRUPTED, a 2024 Gracie Award Winner for Best Talk Show and a 2024 PMJA Award for Best Interview. Her work on justice and civic engagement was honored by the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame in 2021.
