Personal Essay – Shaina Vega

As the oldest of four siblings, I find it my responsibility to encourage myself and my younger siblings to go to college and create better lives for ourselves. My mother never made it out of her junior year of high school; going to college would help me build pride in myself, and, my mom would be proud of me as well. I know that education is the key to life; college presents a significant opportunity for me since I will be the only one from my family to complete high school – some didn't even make it out of middle school. I think that college is a huge step, and one I am ready to take.

My two strongest qualities are my dedication to my work, and my constant striving for what I want and deserve. I am also outspoken, outgoing, creative, determined, and intelligent. I see myself becoming a businesswoman, owning my own business in the future. I look forward to learning from my professors, especially their opinions and thoughts about my career choice and how I can improve my business skills. I want them to get to know me better, and understand that I am serious about my work. I do need a college that takes me seriously, that’s going to help give me the tools I need to succeed so that the importance of higher education is not lost on me and the rest of my generation. I have faith that we young people can make our dreams and experiences worthwhile, if we put forth our best efforts.
