Jan Jungden

Jan Jungden will sing and accompany herself on keyboard while performing jazz and Latin tunes like "Ain't Misbehavin'," "It Don't Mean a Thing," and "Summertime."

Jan Jungden has been performing regionally for more than 30 years. She developed her R&B roots with the eclectic Jake and the Family Jewels, touring the Northeast and playing such clubs as the Bottom Line and Lonestar in NewYork City and Toad's Place in New Haven. Jan has played solo piano along the Connecticut shoreline and currently plays jazz with The Jan Jungden Trio and funk and R&B with FUSE.

With the Jan Jungden Trio, Jan covers keyboards, flute, and vocals. This versatile trio plays classic and contemporary jazz. Jan’s jazz influences include Diana Krall, Billie Holiday, Herbie Hancock, Red Garland, Miles Davis, Horace Silver, and many others. She developed her own flute style by incorporating some of Ian Anderson’s (Jethro Tull) techniques into jazz. The group has released one CD entitled Smooth Ride.

Another passion for Jan is musical theater.  She has helped out on many local productions including working as pianist and co-musical director at ECSU. Jan has written the music for several musicals with playwright Laura Toffenetti.  Their original musical, Transylvania B&B, Miami, was performed by the Windham Players, and their children’s musical, Edna the Stomper, was presented by the Rebel Playhouse at the Chicago Fringe Festival and at the Tank in NYC. She has a B.S. of Education from the University of Connecticut and studied jazz at the University of Bridgeport.
