Join Michael Mwenso of Mwenso & the Shakes for a Communal Listening Experience in the Festival Center.
Imagine the sound of a caravan journeying through the Milky Way, with reverberating guitars, plaintive, perfectly-pitched vocals, bending horns and a “charismatic” (NPR), commanding captain. Mwenso & the Shakes are a unique troupe of global artists who present music that blends jazz and blues expression through African and Afro American music. Immigrating from Sierra Leone, London, South Africa, Madagascar, France, Jamaica, and more, the Shakes all now call Harlem their home. This “wild” (PRI) troupe of multi-talents is described as throwing “intense, prowling, ebullient” live gigs (New York Times) that are as much party as they are performance.
