Your safety is our top priority. For more information about our COVID safety policies & protocols, visit our public safety page.

Tour one of the oldest and most well-known town greens in the nation with the New Haven Preservation Trust. Dating back to at least 1638, the New Haven Green has witnessed a dramatic evolution over the centuries, from a Colonial common for grazing livestock to a modern social hub. Starting at City Hall, we will walk the Green and periphery, discussing the original nine squares of New Haven that formed the first neighborhoods, the 1910 plan to redraw the city’s grid, and the urban revitalization projects underway today. We’ll finish by considering where New Haven center is headed over the coming decades.

New Haven Preservation Trust

For almost six decades, the New Haven Preservation Trust has been championing our City’s historic buildings and neighborhoods.

The Trust functions as both an advocate and a resource. Its regular activities include advice for homeowners, engagement with developers and architects, print and online publications, and tours, talks, and workshops. Collaboration is a key component of our mission: we work closely with other organizations in New Haven and with other preservation agencies.
